Her Majesty Grace, the most beautiful of redheads:
Obituary for Grace DeRue Dean (August 23, 1932 - February 28, 2014)
Grace DeRue Dean, 81, joined her son Jay in Heaven. She departed unexpectedly and left behind husband of 59 years Bill C. Dean of Plano, TX; Kirk Dean of Dunbar, WV; Allen Dean of Charlotte, NC and Charleston, WV; and grandson Aaron Coombs of St. Joseph, MO. All of whom expect to join her someday.
She grew up in Texas and California and served two years as a Navy WAVE. After marriage to Bill in Memphis, TN, she left the Navy. Sparkling with charm and character, she joyfully followed Bill’s Navy and subsequent employment callings from coast to coast in more than 10 cities.
Mother of three sons, she survived the loss of Jay at age 30 and became a better person, mother, and wife as reflected by the encouragement she brought to those around her.
Daughter of Drexel and Grace Chapman, she was born in Borger, TX. Two siblings survive her: D. W. Chapman and Melinda Subia.
The family extends this special recognition and gratitude: In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice Care, Leukemia Society of America, or Alzheimer’s Foundation will both honor Grace and salute the family.
The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Hafer’s Funeral Home, Elkview, WV. A tribute to Grace’s life will be held at 1 p.m. at Hafer’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 12 with Dr. Jeff Nyberg of McKinney, TX officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Big Chimney.
