563 Mirror Time 564 Mirror Time II2123 Mirror Time—Part I: Pretty is As Pretty Does 2124 Mirror Time—Part II: Vanity Saves 2125 Mirror Time—Part III: The First Lady 2126 Mirror Time—Part IV: Trophies Also Fail 2127 Mirror Time—Part V: Early Reveille I've read the series on Mirror Time many times but still have a hard time sticking with is. This is for 2 reasons: 1) I become frustrated when I think about problems in my life but can't find solutions for them 2) It is hard to find the time (!!!!!!!) I am challenging myself to 30 days of Mirror Time! I don't know if I'll have a full 30 minutes every day but I'm going to try my best, even if I only have some time. Does anyone want to join the challenge? Are there any ladies who have incorporated Mirror Time into your daily routines who can share some insight or tips? thanks

I was never quite sure whether mirror time is intended to be separate from the normal time you would spend in front of the mirror getting ready in the mornings?
For example, my hair is long and curly and so requires a lot of maintenance...I can quite easily spend 30 mins in front of the mirror on my hair and makeup every day.
If the purpose behind mirror time is that you feel bored and want to use the time for self reflection and self-talk, then mirror time would require an additional 30 mins to the time I would already spend in front of the mirror?
Just wanted some clarification from you ladies.

Just wanted some clarification from you ladies. I think "mirror time" is exactly what you are already doing, but I haven't re-read the articles that Anonymouswife linked to. The objective I believe is to incorporate the principles Sir Guy outlines in the articles into this time. Again, given your current routine, you may already be doing most of this. Mirror Time isn't one of my areas of expertise, so perhaps Anonymouswife can clarify.

Sir Guy stressed the importance of mirror time over and over throughout his blog.
The idea is that it is important to make yourself pretty for yourself to reaffirm to yourself that you are pretty. During the time you get ready (whether it is already part of your routine or not) in addition to just doing your hair or makeup etc you also talk to yourself. You remind yourself of the female blessings, you go through all the things you are grateful for, you remind yourself of all your strengths, good qualities and everything you've done right. You also affirm your hopes and dreams and with this positive attitude, you are ready for the day both emotionally and physically.
Sir Guy also said that since you are your own best friend and your best problem solver, mirror time is a good time to discuss the issues in your life (with yourself) and come up with solutions.
Anyways I think I've got a handle on it conceptually, but I am not so good at implementation.

Yes - I'll join you! I've always had time in front of the mirror in the morning, but now I try to be more 'conscious' about it with positive self talk about the day and about myself. Paying more attention to make up has been fun - I love duo chrome!

I found a great article on Mirror Time Technique- written by someone else but good info!
This is the link to the full article.
The technique is this (in this article it is for building confidence, but you can add anything)
The article suggests 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening, but something is better than nothing and even a few minutes can help. Sir Guy recommends 30 minutes in the morning.
Stand in front of the mirror and say (outloud):
1. Your good qualities. Start saying out loud all the good things you’ve ever heard about yourself, the compliments you’ve received, the things you like about yourself, your good sides, the stuff that makes you different from others.
Say things like:
I believe in myself no matter what. I’ve succeeded before, I can do it again. The only limitations are the ones in my head, and I won’t let them stop me from going after what I want in life. I’m an individual and have the right to love, be loved, fight for what I believe in and achieve success. I’m beautiful and people see that. I make the right choices. Every day I get stronger, more experienced and confident in myself. I have the potential to do great things with my life.
2. Positive things about the following day. Today is going to be a great day. At the end of it, I’ll be proud of how much I’ve achieved. Wherever I go, I’ll radiate confidence. Others will respect me and look up to me. I deserve the best and only good things are coming my way. I’m surrounded by other confident people.
3. Confidence affirmations. I’m proud of who I am. I’m self-reliant. My voice sounds confident. I trust myself. I look people in the eyes. I am confident of what life has planned for me. I respect myself. I deserve the best.

Thank you for clarifying. I would also like to join this challenge when I return from my holiday at the end of June! I already spend around 30 mins in front of the mirror every morning, but will add in some positive affirmations to kick start my day

I have had a bit of an epiphany about 'mirror time' (acc to the method that Sir Guy perscribles). I struggle with it. I believe it can be so useful in our lives, but I have a hard time doing it. I feel like I am being fake, telling myself 'nice things' about myself and expressing gratitude and recalling all of my good points etc etc. often would feel worse after doing it, to the point that I would stop after a few days.
But I had a bit of an epiphany.
I am looking for a new job and saw a vocational counselor who had me go through and emphasize all of my skills and good points. During our conversation, she remarked that I often would revert back to talking about the things that I wasn't good at and all the skills I was missing. She kept guiding me away from this and towards focusing on my strengths. She said that I shouldn't worry about the things I'm not good at and anyways all job postings were 'wish lists'. I need to keep focused on my strengths and ignore my weaknesses.
There is something about this that is unnatural to me, as I feel like the only way to improve my many flaws is to focus on my negative points and all the places I need improvement (like low confidence...lol).
What happened after I spoke with her and with other interviewers or contacts trying to help me find a job, I started to feel more confident because I was constantly repeating stories of times I was successful at work and all of my strengths. I think this is kind of what Sir Guy is referring to with mirror time. When we remind ourselves daily of our strengths, all the good things we've done...when we repeat them OVER and OVER and day after day, they really do start to impact our feeling about ourselves.
Was wondering what other people thought.
ON A SIDE NOT -
I do hate bragging. There is this femininst trend of "bragging' that I see a lot on facebook, where women encourage one another to be empowered through bragging about their accomplishments and getting positive feedback from the online community. I hate it as I see it as fake and could even be hurtful to other people in the group who feel intimidated by the brags. But I think this is because of the group setting element (as opposed to sitting one-on-one with a coach) and the fact that posting something personal, brag or otherwise, on facebook is superficial.
